In this Father’s Day episode of the StoryCorps podcast, we’re honoring dads.

For our first story, Josh Davis came to StoryCorps with his partner, Elliot Long, to talk about their decision to start a family together.

While Josh and Eliot anticipated and navigated a variety of parenting obstacles — ones that many LGBTQ couples face — they also had role models. Josh was raised by a single gay man in the 1980s in Cincinnati, Ohio. And later, after moving to Florida, his dad met Brad Harrison, who became Josh’s second dad.

Brad and Josh also sat down for StoryCorps, where they spoke about their unique bond, and what it means to them to be a second generation queer family.

And in our last story, we hear from Patrick Haggerty. Growing up in rural Washington state, Patrick didn’t have the legacy of support that Josh and Eliot had. Now in his 70s, he came to StoryCorps with his daughter, Robin Bolland, to remember his father, who he calls “the patron saint of dads for sissies.”
