At StoryCorps, we mourn the loss of friend and past participant John Vigiano Sr., who died on July 8, 2018. A retired FDNY captain, he garnered the reverence and respect of his colleagues throughout his 36 years in the department. His sons, Joe and John Jr., followed him into service as a police detective and firefighter. We met Captain Vigiano when he and his wife, Jan, visited StoryCorps to remember their sons, Joe and John, Jr., who were killed on September 11, 2001.
