Blanca Alvarez came to the United States from Mexico in 1972. She crossed the border with her husband and son while pregnant with her daughter, Connie.

In 2006, Blanca and Connie came to StoryCorps to remember the challenges their family faced after arriving in the U.S.

Blanca and Connie’s story is one in a series of real-life stories presented by StoryCorps and Upworthy reminding us #WhoWeAre—everyday Americans speaking to our best selves.
