StoryCorps Virtual: Marfa & West Texas

The StoryCorps Mobile Tour is Going Virtual!

In partnership with Marfa Public Radio, StoryCorps is bringing our signature recording experience to the virtual space to record, preserve, and share the stories of West Texas.

December 2 – December 19, 2020

Now in its 15th anniversary year, the StoryCorps Mobile Tour has facilitated thousands of meaningful conversations between people who know and care about one another. To date, these face-to-face conversations have taken place in our MobileBooth: an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio. For the first time, to respond to the need for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic — while working towards its mission to help people feel more connected and less alone — StoryCorps has launched a Virtual Mobile Tour. Our newly developed Virtual platform allows residents at stops along our Mobile Tour to participate in the StoryCorps experience online.

Before making an appointment, please ensure you have:

  • A strong internet connection, cell phone strength, or access to a landline
    • The platform we’re using will work with most smartphones, but if you have access to a computer, we strongly recommend using that instead
    • If you do not have internet access, please make a note in your reservation
  • The contact information for your conversation partner
    • If you do not have a partner, please note that in your reservation and we will do our best to provide one for you

Reservations for recording spots are now open! Please click the red button below to book a spot.

If all reservations are booked, you can add yourself to our waitlist through the same link.

Due to high demand and a limited number of appointments, we ask you to please limit bookings to one reservation per person/household.

What to Expect

StoryCorps’ Mobile team will contact everyone who will be participating to go over the details of the virtual recording process and answer any technical questions. We will also do a tech check with you prior to your appointment. Please be on the lookout for a phone call from us with the area code (646). You will not be allowed to participate without confirming by phone and completing the tech check. In the meantime, please check out our Help Center guide to recording and our Great Questions List.

Become a Community Partner

Our goal is to make the StoryCorps recording experience accessible to all. One way we do that is by partnering with local organizations that serve diverse populations. StoryCorps interviews celebrate the voices and milestones in your community and encourage meaningful interactions between your organization and the people you serve. Community partnerships are free of charge, and conversations can be recorded in any language.
