POSITION OVERVIEW

StoryCorps’ Development department is a dedicated group of professionals who work diligently to meet the organization’s ambitious fundraising goals. We’re looking for a skilled database and development professional to join our team to manage a database of over 250,000 constituents from across the US, and support the Development department in our Brooklyn, NY headquarters.

As a key member of StoryCorps’ Development department, the Development Coordinator will be responsible for organizing information within our database (SalesForce), coordinating database needs for communications efforts to donors and prospective donors, and ensuring donor gifts are entered and acknowledged in a timely manner.

The Development Coordinator position will work directly with the Director of Special Events & Individual Giving, the Director of Institutional Giving, and the Chief Development Officer at StoryCorps. The Development Coordinator will also coordinate with all Development team members to ensure the integrity of StoryCorps’ database, while also building a more robust catalog of donor information for segmentation purposes.

Ideal candidates for the position are hardworking and detail-oriented with an enthusiasm for database organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data entry, Data organization, and Report-building:

  • Manage daily entry and reporting of organizational contributions within SalesForce
  • Coordinate Direct Marketing lists for annual appeals
  • Create accurate reports of donor segmentation for use within appeal and stewardship e-mail communications
  • Ensure the integrity of the data in the database and clean up data when necessary
  • Track and report on vital information obtained from donor behaviors garnered through our integrated e-mail platform service and our constituent database
  • Chronicle and report on direct mail solicitations results and message testing
  • Generate donor lists for annual reports, Board Give/Get reports, and other various internal and external donor reporting
  • Track and record progress for moves management system within database for all portfolios
  • Create lists and deploy Development e-blast and donor communications (e.g., to participant donors, sustaining members, corps members etc.)
  • Track and report on vital information obtained from donor behaviors garnered through our integrated e-mail platform service and our constituent database

Donor acknowledgment and donation information outreach:

  • Ensure donor gifts are acknowledged in a timely manner
  • Track and update any failed transactions within the database
  • Perform outreach to donors to update donor records and credit card information for monthly donors
  • Send weekly donor reports to Development and Finance Teams
  • Send monthly participant donation reports to Development and Finance Teams

Set up and update systems to ensure the utilization of SalesForce as the main income-tracking database for the
organization:

  • Work directly with our Digital and Finance teams to create and implement systems to streamline process of tracking all income for the organization
  • Build out platforms within SalesForce to track annual income not currently being tracked within the database in coordination with Digital Team
  • Work directly with our Digital and Finance teams to reconcile income on a monthly basis

Support the Development Department:

  • Update Institutional Giving Calendar as needed, and make sure requests are being fulfilled
  • Update the External Email Schedule, in coordination with Marketing & Communications and Development as needed
  • Performs other duties to support the Development department, as assigned

Other (As Assigned):

  • Coordinate with the Marketing & Communications and Digital & Technical Innovation Departments to create segmentation reports to be utilized with annual communications strategy to donors
  • Perform additional duties to the Development department, including:
  • In-house mailings four times a year
  • Donor research/wealth screening
  • Creating best practice documents in reference to database organization

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • College degree, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • At least 2 years of donor database and CRM experience and knowledge of the moves management process
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate information clearly and with a warm and friendly tone, through both email and phone correspondence
  • Ability and desire to provide excellent and responsive customer service
  • Knowledge of building and evolving organizational aspects of database management
  • Solid organization skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving activities within a growing, changing organization
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people

Preferred:

  • Experience with SalesForce donor database and MailChimp
  • Experience with SalesForce applications (Brickwork, IATS, etc.)
  • Experience working with Classy and Stripe donation systems
