In this edition, we hear from our Next Step Network partner CommonSense America, whose efforts in fostering respectful dialogue align closely with OSS’s mission to bridge divides through meaningful dialogue.

If we could just get past labels like “Republican” and “Democrat” we would find that we have a lot more in common than we are led to believe. Over 85,000 everyday Americans from across the political spectrum have become part of CommonSense American (CSA) because they believe in engaging our differences productively and bringing common sense to American politics.

CSA works to identify solutions wise enough to attract broad bipartisan support nationwide and then champions them in Congress. The voices of everyday Americans have had a three-for-three track record of success in passing significant bipartisan solutions in Congress. As a One Small Step supporter, you are invited to take a next step with us in bringing your perspective to the issues facing the country.

This time is particularly ripe for taking that next step. While Congress is deeply divided along party lines, it is also more evenly divided than at almost any time in American history. That means it takes far fewer members of Congress who are interested in working across the divide to have an outsized impact because neither party can sustain its majorities or accomplish significant legislation without them.

Right now, our members are considering 13 pressing issues to choose the topic with the most promise for bipartisan action in Congress. Please take the simple action of joining CommonSense American and then rating and ranking which of these issues speak most importantly to you.

Thank you for taking that next small step toward bringing the commonsense perspective of everyday Americans to Congress.
