StoryCorps Alumni: Continuing the Conversation
StoryCorps Alumni: Continuing the Conversation

January 26, 2010

Dear StoryCorps Alumni,

Happy New Year! In 2009 we welcomed thousands of new StoryCorps Alumni, launched Historias, our initiative to record the stories of Latinos, and celebrated our second annual National Day of Listening.

In 2010 we look forward to growing our Alumni community through our Mobile Tour and through initiatives like Historias and the Memory Loss Initiative. We'll continue to enlighten and inspire millions through our broadcasts, podcasts, and books. And we will build the StoryCorps archive to include even more stories from diverse and hard-to-reach communities from coast to coast.

We owe StoryCorps' success to you, our devoted Alumni. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Create a Nation of Listeners campaign. Hundreds of StoryCorps Alumni, podcast listeners, and fans have helped us nearly reach our goal of raising $250,000 for our end-of-the-year campaign.

If you haven't already, please join me and the hundreds of Alums who have donated to Create a Nation of Listeners. Together, we will look forward to a prosperous 2010!

Warmly,

Christa

Earlier this month, StoryCorps Historias pulled into its first stop of 2010 - Miami! StoryCorps Historias chose to go to Miami because few cities can compare to its contributions to the history and culture of Latinos in the United States.

New Alumni Manuel and Mercedes Quiroga stepped into the booth to record the story of their rich family history in Havana, Cuba. Read more about their story on the StoryCorps Blog.

A special thanks to the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for its generous support of StoryCorps Historias' efforts to record, preserve, and share the stories of Latinos in Miami.

Check out the StoryCorps Blog and write your own comments on even more posts from cities and towns throughout the United States, including Yuma, Arizona.

I'm so happy San Francisco continues to have the StoryCorps Booth, where I recorded an interview with my 85-year-old aunt. You are doing great work!

I am so proud to be a StoryCorps Alumna! My kids and I interviewed each other for StoryCorps a few weeks ago. While our original intent was to share my late mother's life story, our experience with StoryCorps turned out to be its own amazing story!

-Alison Jones with her children Erin(R) and Ryan Jones(L), Colorado Springs, CO

We thank these Alumni for sharing their stories! Please share yours by emailing alumni@storycorps.org.

    Question of the Month

We have a feature on our website that helps you start a new conversation with your friends, family, and loved ones by simply asking a question. Each month we suggest a question for you to email to your friends and family.

    This month's question is:
If you could do anything right now, what would you do? Why?

It's simple: Send an email. Ask a question. Listen to what comes back. We'd love to hear what happens!
