If we’re not in a location near you, there are several ways for you to record your story at home, at a family gathering, or with your community organization or institution.

Use our Do-It-Yourself Guide

Recommended for: Individuals, families, schools, libraries
Fee: No

Download a free and easy to use Do-It-Yourself Instruction Guide to record your own interview at home, in the classroom, or library. While StoryCorps is unable to archive DIY recordings, the DIY Instruction Guide will show you how to start your own archive.

Rent a StoryKit

Recommended for: Individuals and families
Fee: Yes

We have a limited number of portable recording equipment packages available for rent through our StoryKit program. These packages accommodate 1-4 individual interviews of 40 minutes each, and since they are recorded on our special equipment, these interviews can be issued to you in CD form, included in StoryCorps archive at the Library of Congress, and be considered for broadcast on public radio.

Sponsor on-site recording days

Recommended for: Organizations, institutions, large groups
Fee: Yes

If you have 6 or more people you would like to record, or if you represent a group or organization with these needs, we can bring our trained staff and professional equipment to your site for a reasonable fee.
