“Thomas woke me up and said that something was really wrong.”
Shortly after the September 11 attacks, another act of terror hit the country–this time through the mail. Five people died and seventeen became ill after coming in contact with letters laced with anthrax.
Two of the victims were postal service workers whose job was to process the mail.
Thomas Morris, worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. He died about a week after being exposed to anthrax at the Brentwood post office in Washington, D.C.
His widow, Mary Morris, came to StoryCorps to remember their life together–starting with the day they met at a family funeral.
Recorded in Beach Park, IL.
