Interview transcript

Roni: The whole night I was in labor there was music being piped in and I thought I was hallucinating because Diana Ross’ song “I’m Coming Out”… “and I want the world to know” started playing in the speaker system and I said ok I know I didn’t have enough sleep but it really was playing.

Adam: So what happens when he comes out?

Roni: They didn’t even clean him up they just put him on me and all of us were crying. He had some set of lungs and even now when he cries or when he yawns or makes a certain expression he still looks like the day when he was born.

Adam: You think you’re the mother that you wanted to be? Or you couldn’t really imagine being a mother.

Roni: I think as much as you could imagine it you’ll never know how much you can love another person. How much that you’ll put yourself last. You can’t know. And that’s kind of what being a mom is all about.
