StoryCorps Alaska was a six-month initiative to collect and record the diverse voices and life experiences of Alaskans. Sharing these stories honors our history, encourages appreciation of our traditions and our Elders, and captures the true spirit of our community. By celebrating our shared humanity and collective identity, StoryCorps Alaska will help ensure the rich heritage of Alaskans will be preserved and presented with dignity.
From October 15, 2008, through April 30, 2009, StoryCorps staff facilitated interviews, hosted by local community-based organizations, in Fairbanks, Nome, Barrow, Dillingham, Unalaska and Juneau. You can read about our work in Alaska on the StoryCorps blog.
All interviews collected as part of StoryCorps Alaska are archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. We also partnered with the Alaska Public Radio Network, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and other community organizations and groups to share and distribute our collected stories.
