Community Partner Highlights

Carnegie-Knight News 21 Initiative
Carnegie-Knight’s News 21 Initiative is a network of graduate students from the country’s top journalism schools who research new ways to practice online journalism. News 21 Fellows at Syracuse University and Arizona State University will interview veterans for the National Day of Listening and produce high-quality audio clips and photos to post on the Veteran’s Listening Project website.

Fairfield University
Forty freshman will be conducting their own interviews on the National Day of Listening as part of Fairfield University’s U.S. Diversity English Composition curriculum.

Girl Scout Troop 565
On November 23, 2009, the seven- and eight-year-olds of Troup 565 will visit the StoryCorps recording booth in Atlanta, Georgia, to learn about oral history and to prepare to interview family members for the National Day of Listening. They will earn a badge for completing their interview.

New York Public Library
The New York Public Library invited six artists to record stories at the StoryCorps recording booth in New York City. On the National Day of Listening, the New York Public Library is inviting the public to listen to excerpts from the artists’ stories and to view their artwork. The artists will participate in a panel discussion about their StoryCorps recording experiences, and the audience is invited to share what art means in their personal lives.

Williamson County Public Library
Williamson County Public Library is engaging its community members on National Day of Listening by hosting a storytelling event featuring local raconteurs.
