I am a StoryCorps researcher looking for stories from or about deaf, Deaf, and hard-of-hearing persons who, like Ralph, serve as a cultural bridge between the Deaf and hearing communities. If you know of stories like Ralph's or Taye's, please post more! Thank you sincerely for your post.

Ralph's is really a remarkable story. Thanks for sharing. I have a family member with a hearing impairment who also reads lips and has displayed some of the same tenacity in her own journey. Unlike Ralph she has benefited from the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 but there still remains much to do to accomplish the goal of making our public culture less able body centric.

It's amazing how much we can learn about our country, history, and culture from the lives of everyday people. And I love how these stories reveal the connection between Ralph and Taye, even though they're strangers to each other. Thank you for sharing this!
