Proudly born and raised in the Bay Area, Sophie Simon-Ortiz got her start recording community stories at Oakland-based organization Youth Radio. She was thrilled to move back home last year after completing her B.A. at Oberlin College, where she majored in American and Latin American Studies, and minored in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. Since early 2010 she’s been loving her work as a facilitator at the San Francisco StoryBooth. Since moving back to the Bay Area, Sophie has also worked in the East Bay doing art with elementary school kids and as a legal aid counselor with Causa Justa/Just Cause, a tenants’ rights organization in Oakland.
