Nadja Middleton grew up following her French mother and American father, who wanted to see the world. It was her choice, though, to major in Arabic and Middle East studies, to continue traveling and better appreciate the stories of those she met along the way. Eventually she moved to New York City, where she was able to cultivate her love of radio broadcasting and join StoryCorps just as it started to bloom into a national project.
