Katie Miles grew up in the Mission District of San Francisco, CA. She has worked as a union organizer, a nanny, and professional love letter editor. At Barnard College, she studied anthropology and wrote a thesis based on an oral history project she conducted with a group of Nicaraguan mothers. She was a contributor to the anthology Against Equality: Queer Critiques of Gay Marriage and has been involved in social justice organizing projects with her community. Most recently, as a union organizer, she worked with security officers in Newark, NJ.
