Gara LaMarche Elected Chairperson of StoryCorps Board

Gara LaMarche, a Senior Fellow at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, has been elected Chairperson the Board of StoryCorps, the national oral history project. Mr. LaMarche served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Atlantic Philanthropies from 2007 to 2011.

StoryCorps to Present Its Vast Audio Archive at the New Museum’s “The Last Newspaper” Exhibit in Lower Manhattan

StoryCorps will be featured in “The Last Newspaper”—a new exhibition on view at the New Museum in New York City from October 6, 2010, through January 9, 2011. The exhibition, a large-scale exercise in citizen journalism that explores the ways artists approach the news, will allow the public to access part of StoryCorps’ archive of professional-quality audio stories.

StoryCorps has announced the third annual National Day of Listening to take place on November 26, 2010. The National Day of Listening is an effort to encourage Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs to interview a friend, loved one, or member of their community about their lives on the day after Thanksgiving.

The Best Five Minutes of TV This August Is StoryCorps’ “Danny & Annie” on PBS

StoryCorps makes its entrance into the world of television with an animated version of one of its most beloved stories. Danny Perasa was an OTB (off-track betting) clerk and Annie was a nurse when they first visited StoryCorps in Grand Central Terminal in 2004 to recount their twenty-seven-year romance. These remarkable Brooklynites returned to StoryCorps time and time again to document their lives and share stories of their lifelong love affair.

Gara LaMarche, President and CEO of the Atlantic Philanthropies, has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the renowned national nonprofit StoryCorps. Prior to leading The Atlantic Philanthropies, LaMarche served as the Vice President and Director of U.S. Programs at the Open Society Institute (OSI).
