StoryCorps Historias is a one-year initiative to record the stories of 700 Latinos around the country. Recognizing the need to cover diverse Latino communities, StoryCorps Historias will gather stories from Latino residents in the US that represent numerous national backgrounds – Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central and South American – as well as urban and rural experiences. StoryCorps Historias will be conducted with partnership and support from the Latino Public Radio Consortium, various historical and cultural institutions, and membership organizations. The StoryCorps Historias intern will play an integral role in assisting StoryCorps in achieving the goals of this important initiative.

Duties & Responsibilities

Projects may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Research and identify Latino organizations to partner with throughout the country.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with Latino organizations.
  • Assist in managing current contacts through meetings and in-office correspondence.
  • Correspond and speak with StoryCorps participants.
  • General administrative tasks as needed.

Ideal Candidate

Resourcefulness, strong attention to detail, ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as a team are vital. Familiarity with Excel and/or FileMaker Pro is a plus. Knowledge of community-based organizations, especially Latino-serving organizations, is also a plus, but not required. Bilingual (English and Spanish) ability is highly preferred.

At the end of the internship, interns will have extensive knowledge of community organization, public speaking skills, and experience working in a mid-sized nonprofit.

Goals of the Internship
