Memory Loss Initiative Outreach Intern
In 2006, StoryCorps launched an initiative to reach out to people affected by memory loss. Our aim is to support and encourage people with memory loss to share their stories. The project is guided by an Advisory Board of nationally recognized leaders in the field of memory loss, and all interviews are facilitated by our specially trained staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
Projects may include, but will not be limited to:
- Research and identify organizations serving memory loss participants throughout the country
- Build and maintain partnerships with organizations that serve culturally diverse communities, particularly Latino communities
- Assist in the planning and coordinating of Memory Loss Initiative onsite recording days
- Present the Memory Loss Initiative in tabling events and public speaking forums
- Assist in managing current contacts through meetings and in-office correspondence
- Correspond and speak with participants
- General administrative tasks as needed
Ideal Candidate
Resourcefulness, strong attention to detail, ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as a team are vital. Passion for serving the elderly and knowledge of community-based aging organizations are preferred but not required. Familiarity with Excel and/or FileMaker Pro is a plus. Bilingual (English and Spanish) ability is highly preferred.
Value of the Internship
At the end of the internship the Memory Loss Initiative intern will gain knowledge, skills, and experience in community outreach and organization. The intern will also gain experience in activities involved in the planning, coordination, and execution of a large-scale oral history project.
