Marketing & Graphic Design Intern
The Marketing & Communications Department works to create the public face of StoryCorps by educating the public about the organization’s mission, initiatives, and tiers of service. Our goal is to communicate that StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit organization worthy of general public interest, press attention, and financial support.
Marketing-specific functions include writing and designing printed and digital materials, editing the StoryCorps and National Day of Listening websites, providing technical support for the Facilitator blog, writing the weekly newsletter, and reinforcing the branding and identity of the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
Projects may include, but will not be limited to:
- Support marketing efforts to increase awareness of StoryCorps and create brand recognition.
- Assist in designing printed and online marketing materials, such as brochures, posters, and web banners, using InDesign and Photoshop.
- Organize and manage photography archives.
- Help write content for the weekly newsletter. Correspond with newsletter subscribers when necessary.
- Help edit the StoryCorps website and blog.
- Provide support in strategic meetings.
- Perform marketing research and general administrative tasks as needed.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an individual who is creative, organized, detail-oriented, and interested in gaining experience in marketing, advertising, and graphic design. Resourcefulness, ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and as a team are vital.
Basic understanding of graphic design, typography, and beginner knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop are required. Communication skills, both verbal and written, and experience with Microsoft Office are essential. Knowledge of basic HTML is a plus.
Goals of the Internship
This internship will provide key work experience in marketing, internal and external communications, and graphic design at a mid-size nonprofit organization.
