Communications Intern
The Marketing & Communications Department seeks a Communications Intern to join our award-winning nonprofit dedicated to celebrating one another’s lives through listening. Led by legendary producer Dave Isay, StoryCorps records and preserves the life experiences of everyday Americans in the largest oral history project of its kind. Millions listen to our broadcast on NPR, our podcasts, or have read our bestselling book, Listening Is an Act of Love. We have inspired thousands of local projects and have been described as “perhaps the most important cultural event in America today.”
Duties & Responsibilities
Projects may include, but will not be limited to:
- Support Communications Assistant with media outreach.
- Research potential blogs, online listings, and local press outlets to promote our weekly NPR broadcast, special events, and the National Day of Listening.
- Help increase our social network fan base by regularly updating the StoryCorps Facebook fan page and Twitter account.
- Maintain and update press database, press lists, and news clippings.
- Create press hit reports.
- Provide support in strategic meetings and National Day of Listening planning.
- General administrative tasks as needed.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an intern who is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in gaining experience in communications and public relations. Resourcefulness, ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as a team are vital. Communication skills, both verbal and written, and experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are essential. Knowledge of basic HTML is a plus.
Goals of the Internship
This internship will provide key work experience in internal and external communications, public relations, and social networking at a mid-size nonprofit organization.
