Internships at StoryCorps
The StoryCorps Internship Program is designed for college students and recent college graduates interested in gaining valuable experience in a creative, fast-paced nonprofit organization. Please note that we do not currently accept applications from high school students.
StoryCorps interns bring a diverse set of experiences, skills, and most importantly, a willingness to learn and to contribute to our mission and goals. StoryCorps seeks to share and preserve the stories of an inclusive range of American voices—from our Griot Initiative to preserve stories of African Americans, to StoryCorps Historias to collect the experiences of Latinos—and candidates with experience working in diverse communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
StoryCorps offers two sessions of intern opportunities:
Winter/Spring from January to June and Summer/Fall from June to December. The current internship session runs from
January 9, 2012 to June 1, 2012.
Our interns take part in a supportive and collaborative work environment at our offices in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Unless otherwise noted, StoryCorps interns work in the morning (9:30 am–1:30 pm) or in the afternoons (1:30–5:30 pm), Monday through Friday, for a total of 20 hours per week.
StoryCorps provides a weekly stipend of $55 to help cover lunch and transportation expenses. In addition, StoryCorps interns may arrange to receive school credit upon program completion.
We are now recruiting for the following interns to join our Winter/Spring 2012 session for an immediate start date:

What our program has to offer
Access: All interns have the unique opportunity to participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the goals and mission of StoryCorps.
Training: Interns receive a comprehensive week-long training and StoryCorps orientation, including exposure to all departments, initiatives, and tiers of service.
Development: Interns learn valuable professional skills during their time at StoryCorps. Intern supervisors place special emphasis on growth and learning, beginning with individual goal setting at the start of each session. In addition, StoryCorps sponsors a bimonthly lunch series devoted to intern professional development. During each “Lunch & Learn,” department leaders present on a wide range of topics, including department overviews, career advice, and building professional skills.
What past interns have said
“My favorite part of this internship has been the experience of truly feeling a part of a team and having responsibility. I feel that my contribution really matters which has provided me with the motivation to work hard and excel. I really loved the work environment that StoryCorps provides: one of respect, openness, energy and collaboration.”
-StoryBooth Intern
“I really appreciated how seriously the internship program is taken. My supervisor really focused on helping me improve my professional/business skills and gave me the opportunity to take on individual projects and responsibilities.”
-Participant Relations Intern
“My favorite part about this internship program was how completely integrated I felt into the fabric of StoryCorps. I never felt like my work was less valuable or important because I was an intern. Likewise, in the Mobile Department, I have felt from the first day that I was an integral member of the Mobile team.”
